Joint Pain and Arthritis.

The two most common reasons for joint pain are related to soft tissue damage  and Osteoarthritis (OA).  OA is a musculoskeletal disease and the most common joint ailment in the world.

Arthritis can occur in any joint, but most regularly seen in weight-bearing joints such as the knees and hips, as well as the low back, neck and hands. The process of degeneration usually begins around the age of 40, maybe earlier if there has been an injury or trauma to a joint.

OA is often referred to as wear and tear arthritis, caused by the cartilage in a joint gradually wearing away.  The slow degeneration of the protective cartilage causes joints to be painful and stiff and makes movement difficult.  Muscles and ligaments have to work harder to move the joint and over time, they can become damaged too.

Along with the soft tissue damage, the bones themselves can develop bony growths / spurs.    All this results in pain and swelling, which restricts the flexibility of the joint and leads to a loss of mobility, disabilities and problems in everyday life.

“My pain and inflammation have both reduced. I cannot recommend this treatment highly enough, a hidden secret that can be life changing for people with arthritis.”

Bones are connected to each other via flexible joints. In order to prevent the bones from rubbing against each other, the contact areas are covered in a smooth, shock absorbing cartilaginous tissue. However, since cartilage has a slow metabolism, it takes a long time to regenerate. When the regeneration process is disturbed, elasticity decreases at a constant pace and the joint cartilage becomes less resilient.

Osteoarthritis does not form overnight. Joint wear due to cartilage degeneration can develop over many years, in most cases there is hardly any discomfort at first, making it barely noticeable.  Catching and treating arthritis early is always better than accepting it as inevitable and waiting until it is particularly symptomatic before seeking help.  There are ways to slow the degenerative process.

How we help with joint pain and OA?

We can help patients with joint pain and Osteoarthrits in a number of ways.  Our therapists look to aid and restore joint function using multiple hands-on techniques as well as strength and stretch exercises.  High Power Laser may be incorporated for its influence on inflamed, painful joints.

In addition to this, we can offer the most effective treatment for Osteoarthritis – MBST therapy – which helps reduce inflammation and stimulates the cartilage cells into regrowth/regeneration, preserving the natural joint.
